Get Your Ass to the Rosenbach!

On October 27, 2013, The Rosenbach Museum & Library, Philadelphia, will be holding a tour titled “The Growth of Stoker’s Dracula” from 3pm–4pm.: “Get up close and personal with Bram Stoker’s hand-written notes for the novel as Rosenbach staff discuss what it takes to create an enduring monster” (Rosenbach Museum & Library 2013). It’ll cost you $5 per person, along with the general admission fee.

In 2008, the notes were published by McFarland as a hardback book called Bram Stoker’s Notes for Dracula: A Facsimile Edition. It was annotated and transcribed by Elizabeth Miller and Robert Eighteen-Bisang and features several essays. It’s an absolute must for Dracula scholars and anyone wanting an insight into the creative process behind Stoker’s masterpiece.

978-0-7864-7730-2Unfortunately, the book’s price is quite prohibitive to the average consumer: a copy’s available on Amazon for US$61.75 (Amazon.com 2013).  That’s just the way things go with academic publications.

Fortunately, its publisher recently released a cheaper paperback reprint on October 2, 2013. And by cheaper, I mean it’ll cost you US$35 (McFarland 2013). That price should drop over time, too. Hopefully.

In the meantime, I highly recommend taking the Rosenbach tour. And getting a copy of the book, too.
